Site News- Yes, once again...

I know, I know, it seems as if I'm always posting on new features for my blog. It's just that there is so much stuff out there to choose from, that inevitably being the amateur techie that I am, I want to try it all. In any case, here are the new features/tools I've added this time around.

First, I created a button you can add to the Google toolbar. The new NYkrinDC button allows you to not only search the content on this blog, but also comes with RSS built in, so that any time I submit a new post, you can go to its directly from the Google Toolbar. The link to the button is now on the right sidebar under Syndication. All you have to do is click on the link and a window will pop-up asking you whether you want to add the button to your Google toolbar. Google provides an easy to use guide for creating these buttons, it took me less than ten minutes to do so. To add me to your Google toolbar, click on the link on the right sidebar or click here.

In addition, taking a cue from MountainRunner, I've also created a custom Google search engine of my blogroll. It includes almost every blog I currently link to on my Pageflakes blogroll so there is a lot of content to search from. Again, Google makes it simple to create these features.

Thirdly, I've also signed up for Feedburner, now that it's been acquired by Google. From now on, my feeds will be routed through them. The reason for the change, Feedburner provides a lot of useful features for a blogger. My new feedburner feed is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/NYkrinDC. My old blogger feed should still work, it will just be routed through feedburner instead. There is no need to change it, but I would appreciate it as it would help me better gauge my audience's interests. As a final note on this change, I would like to note that thanks to feedburner you can now subscribe to this blog by e-mail as well.

This next change is older, but still a significant addition to my blog. As many of you have noticed, there is now a "bookmark" function below each blog posting, and a "subscribe" function on the right sidebar under syndication. These are run through the addthis service. The bookmarking function allows you to bookmark individual posts using almost any bookmarking service, and the subscribe function does the same for feeds.

I've also created a new page in my Pageflakes that contains newsfeeds from 27 different sources. This page will replace the News Notebook I had created in blogger. The reason for this change is that Pageflakes makes it much easier for me to manage my feeds than would otherwise be the case.

Finally, and this is perhaps the oldest of all the changes, if you scroll down and look at the left sidebar, right above the Recommended Reading section, you'll notice that I also have a link that allows you to get this blog as a blidget or a blog widget. This service is provided by widgetbox, and allows anyone to upload a blog widget to many social networking services. To look at my blog as a widget, click here.

I hope these new features make for a better user experience. Please let me know if you encounter any problems with any of them and I will try to address them in a timely fashion. Enjoy.

Well done, I'm beginning a revamp, so this stuff is kind of close to my heart. (Really considering the feedburner stuff, just don't know how much of a hassle that would be for current users.)

Anyway, apologies for not getting in touch while in DC. Next time there will be significantly more coordination etc.

For blogger users, its simple because your feeds area automatically directed to your feedburner feed. But I don't know how it works for non-blogger users.

It's okay, that was a hectic week for me. Hopefully, next time I can meet you all in person. I imagine that our online debates would be so much more fun over a pint of Guinness. :)

I really enjoyed reading your article!

I subscribed to the email - I'm too lazy/busy to go through my blogroll/pageflakes every day (as shown by my commenting a week late).

How do you do the "read more" expandable posts?
